Start with the roof itself
A solar proposal should consider your roof’s condition, structure and remaining service life. If roof repair or replacement is already planned, discuss it before designing the array. A qualified assessment helps establish what the roof can safely support.
Look at shade throughout the day
Nearby trees, buildings and roof features can cast changing shadows. A site assessment considers these patterns alongside roof orientation, slope and usable space. The best layout is specific to the property.
Understand when you use electricity
Gather recent electricity bills and think about when your household uses the most energy. Daytime consumption helps determine how much generated electricity could be used directly. A bill alone is a starting point, not a complete system design.
Plan the electrical connection
Panels are only one part of a solar system. The inverter, protection equipment, cable routes and connection to the building’s electrical system need to be designed together. Your installer should explain the proposed layout and applicable approvals.
Bring the right information
For an initial discussion, prepare your property location, roof photographs if available and recent electricity bills. Tell us about future changes, such as new appliances or a planned renovation. A site-specific proposal should state assumptions, scope, equipment and maintenance arrangements.
